Operation Branded and the Value Horses Can Provide in the Healing Process with Lindsey Gabbard of Branded Equine Based Therapy Services

ree

We all know the special connection and bonds there can be between horse and rider, but did you know that there are actual brain changes for positive healing of adults and children. Horses are such a great resource for therapy to help anyone from PTSD to cognitive disorders and other behavioral issues. Research has shown that equine assisted therapy can create real, positive changes in the brain as well as the physical benefits that routines with horses can help with a person's functional movement.

Someone who knows this very well is this week's guest, Lindsey Gabbard. She is fortunate enough to be the niece of the legendary cowgirl Patti Colbert so she had quite the role model and supporter in her horse journey. With that love for horses and her educational background she has been able to start and operate a very successful hippotherapy business specializing in all types of therapy including a very unique and special program that is really has had a big impact on the veterans and first responders community.

In the episode, Lindsey and I talk about her program called Operation Branded that pairs veterans and first responders with untrained mustangs which is so unique and provides not only a new purpose for the men to find after service, but also for the mustangs. A really cool thing is many of the veterans come back to the program as mentors which just helps grow the program and the community among them to support each other!

Equine therapy helps build confidence as well as changing lives! You really hear Lindsey's heart for what she does in this episode and for the equine industry!
